Steps to make to make Spicy Tomato Biryani

  1. Slice 2-4 medium sized onion. Roughly chop 5-6 tomatoes. Grind all the above-mentioned ingredients, under the caption 'to grind' to a thick smooth paste.
  2. Wash and soak 2 cups of basmati rice for 25 minutes. Then, drain it with a stainer.
  3. In a pressure cooker, add oil and ghee. After it becomes hot, add all the above-mentioned whole spices. Add cashew nuts. Now add onions. Saute on low flame.
  4. After onions turn translucent,add grinded smooth paste and mix it. Then,add tomatoes. Add little salt, 1tsp sugar,turmeric powder, dhaniya powder and red chilli powder and saute it. 'Do not overcook tomatoes'
  5. Now, add basmati rice. Add a tsp of ghee and saute it for few minutes. Add few coriander and mint leaves.
  6. Add water. Add 1.5 cups of water for 1 cup of rice. This is the ratio of water for long grain basmati rice. Then add required quantity of salt and mix well. Close the lid.
  7. Pressure cook on low flame for 2 whistles.
  8. Delicious Biryani is ready. Relish this with raita.
