  1. 3/4 Cup Yellow Moong Dal: Washed & Boiled
  2. 1 tsp Salt or To Taste
  3. 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  4. 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  5. 1-1.5 tsps Sugar
  6. 1/4 Cup Fresh Tomatoes: Finely Chopped- Optional
  7. 1/4 Cup Fresh Green Peas
  8. 1/4 Cup Grated Coconut: Fresh/Desiccated
  9. 1 tbsp Ginger Paste: To be used in 2 Batches
  10. 1 tbsp Ghee
  11. 1 tbsp Cooking Oil
  12. Tempering Spices: 1 Bay Leaf
  13. 1-2 Whole Dry Red Chilli
  14. 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  15. 1/2 tsp Randhuni Seeds/Ajmoda/
  16. 3-4 Green Cardamoms: Split
  17. 3-4 Cups water: To Boil the Dal & adjust its consistency, later
  18. Garnish: A dash of Ghee
  19. 1 Handful: Grated Coconut

  1. Firstly: Wash well & boil the dal in the pressure cooker- Once done & de-pressurised Muddle it a bit & set aside for sometime
  2. On a separate pan/pot: Add in the Cooking Oil & ghee together on the medium-high flame, in goes the tempering spices- Let them start spluttering while being fragrant, drop down the finely chopped tomatoes
  3. Sauté until nicely blended & turns quite soft & mushy- Then, add in the green peas, salt, turmeric & red chilli powders, half of the ginger paste and keep sautéing until nicely cooked & the oil surfaces upto the pan
  4. Time to add in the cooked dal into it & mix everything well together until nicely combined and well blended- Add in some more water to adjust the consistency according to your choice-add in the sugar now…also, in goes the reserved Ginger Paste at this point
  5. Lower the flame to the medium low once it gets a boil, check all the seasonings & cover the pan with a lid and allow it to cook & all the aroma of the minimal spices & coconut & ghee get well incorporated into it & the consistency of the dal is thickened a bit (as we want it to be)
  6. Complete with a dash of ghee, a Handful of the grated coconut, cover it back- turn off the flame- Let it sit on the hot oven for another 10 mins time before serving it piping hot with the equally piping hot steamed rice 🍚 and ENJOY 💁🏻‍♀️
